Are you looking for a genuine work from home opportunity? Something to supplement your income or even to replace it? Are you tired of being told that there is a work from home business for you to join right away only to find out you have to spend most nights out of the house promoting it?
I may have the answer for you. But you will have to consider a few things first because this isn’t for everyone, but for those who do take it up, it becomes a lifestyle as much as a business.
Note –This post includes adverts and affiliate links which means if you make a purchase through any of these links I’ll earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps me support the running of this website and continue to publish helpful content. I use whatever I promote for my own business, which is why I’m happily an affiliate! Thank you for your support!
To save time, check through this list to see whether this is something that is going to be suitable for you as I don’t want to waste your time telling you about something that you will not be suited to.
Did you answer yes to any or all of those questions? Great, maybe this is for you. Just check the next list below…
Great, now we’re really getting somewhere. Just one more thing I need to check on before I tell you about my amazing and genuine work from home opportunity…
Are you looking for a get rich quick option?
If you answered yes to this I’m afraid this opportunity really isn’t for you. This is for someone who is willing to work hard and put in lots of effort and who is willing to be patient about seeing results. If you are one of those people the rewards can be staggering.
My genuine work from home opportunity is blogging. Now don’t roll your eyes until you’ve heard me out. I promise, this is something that not only lets you work from anywhere in the world, but it also has the potential for you to earn a life changing income.
Like I said, this is not a get rich quick scheme. In fact it’s the opposite in some respects. You can get rich, and some do get rich quickly, however this is the exception rather than the rule, for most of us, it takes a long time for our blogs to take off and become successful to the point where we are earning a good income from them.
The real beauty about blogging is that anyone can do it. You can fit it around your other work and life commitments, you can learn as you go along and there are some other amazing bloggers out there who will do all they can to help you succeed.
Blogging is also a great business to start because it requires the bare minimum of set up costs. There is no inventory or franchise to purchase. There is no rent or mortgage to find for premises. There are no issues about staff, because you don’t need any and you can literally work when it suits you.
It can be used as a way to boost your current income or pension, or to replace your current income if you really work at it.
It’s really easy to get started you can download my totally free Blogging Basics for Beginners email course and get started as early as today.
There are a few ways that bloggers can make money from their blogs. I’ll tell you a little about each one here so that you can decide which one would suit you best.
Affiliate marketing. This just means marketing and promoting other people’s goods or services and if you make a sale you get paid a commission. Some of the commissions can be as much as 50% so you don’t need to sell many £100 items to see a nice little income developing do you?
The seller knows that you sent the customer to them because they give you a unique link to use in your blog posts that takes the reader to their site or offer. If the reader then clicks on the link and goes on to make a purchase, the seller will reward you for the referral with up to 50% of the value of the sale.
Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to make money online as it doesn’t involve you having to create anything of your own to sell.
It can take time to make enough sales to call it a living though, as you will need to grow your blog and build up the visitors who are interested enough to click and then make a purchase.
There is an excellent course that will show you exactly how to set up an affiliate marketing business so that you can get up and running and making sales much faster. You can check it out here “Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing” it’s the one I took when I decided to start affiliate marketing.
Allowing adverts on your site. This is even easier than affiliate marketing because you don’t have to do anything other than set your adverts up with someone like Google Adsense or Mediavine.
The advertisers will place their adverts in appropriate places on your blog. They will be adverts that are applicable to what you blog about. For example I blog about things concerning older people, and about helping people to start their own blogs and so the adverts that would appear on my blog would be things like hosting services for websites, work from home opportunities, pension advice etc.
Once you set up your blog to accept adverts you don’t need to do anything else. When someone visits your blog, if they click on an advert you will be paid a small amount of commission by the advertiser through Google Adsense or Mediavine or other advertising service.
The downside to this is that the commissions are tiny, pennies, and so it will take a long time to build this up to a decent income. Obviously the more traffic you get to your site the more chance you have of people clicking and the more money you can make.
It is possible to earn a few pounds from the tiniest amount of traffic. I tried this when I first set up my blog and I was amazed at how this can add up – and for doing NOTHING
Promotions. Sometimes you will naturally want to promote something that you think is good value or offers someone a solution to a problem or alleviates a pain point.
For example you might be a travel blogger and tell people about what you saw, or what you used while on your travels. You might have stayed in a great hotel that was easily accessible for those with mobility issues and feel it worthy of a mention in your blog.
Now imagine that you do this often and people start to come to your blog for good advice about where to stay when travelling. You become a trusted advisor and people take your advice (think Zoella).
Hostelries and hotels might get to hear about you. They might offer you the chance to stay in their hotels for free in exchange for a review on your blog. This happens – it happens a lot. Although you might not get paid directly for your review, you are getting to stay in some great places for free.
The same can apply to products that you use or services that you take advantage of. If you recommend things to others and become someone they go to for advice, it won’t be long before the product or service creators are looking you up.
Selling your own products or services. Although this takes time to set up and is probably the most difficult of ways to make money from your blog, it is by far the most profitable.
If, for example, you create a digital product that can be emailed or downloaded, it costs you nothing to deliver it. Once it is created the profits are pretty much 100%
I have a little e-book that teaches new bloggers how to write a great blog post. It took me a while to research the information and create the e-book but now that it’s done I don’t have to do anything else except just sit back and collect the money from the sales.
It’s the perfect accompaniment, by the way, if you’re going to use any of these strategies as it will help you to get your blog posts found, viewed and clicked from day one. You can grab your copy here.
Or you might have an Etsy shop or products that you sell on Ebay or Amazon. Your blog is a great way to drive traffic to those listings for free. No more having to pay for Amazon adverts! Simply write a blog post about your product and then create a hyperlink that takes the viewer directly to the listing.
For an example of exactly how this works, and how easy it is to set up, I sell swimming goggles on Amazon (long story). Let’s say this post was about those goggles. I mentioned how they are anti-fog, that they are suitable for people with long or extended eyelashes and they are comfortable and durable etc. I then simply say something like get your next swimming goggles here with the link to the page and hey presto, the reader goes straight to your listing where they can make a purchase. How simple is that?
You can have your blog created and be ready to start publishing posts in as quick as a couple of hours. Download my free Blogging Basics for Beginners email course here.
Basically, you just need to choose a domain name and get it hosted by a provider and you’re off. That can cost as little as £40 for two years if you go with these guys. My blogging basics for beginners course will talk you through how to do everything to get set up.
It is then just a matter of writing about a dozen great blog posts to get started and then promoting your blog to the world. You can do the whole lot in a few days and be ready to promote your blog by this time next week, and expect to get traffic to it too if you follow what I teach in my email course.

We are a true community in every sense of the word and there will always be someone you can lean on for help. Me for example, this whole blog is designed to help “older” ladies get over the hurdles of technology and I will help to make everything as simple as possible for you.

For me the real beauty of blogging as a genuine work from home opportunity is that it is truly a work from home opportunity. You can type your posts from the comfort of your own lounge, or bed if you want to. But for me it’s the freedom it offers.
Imagine being able to work from anywhere in the world with an internet connection? How liberating is that? I made money from my sunbed in Mexico while on my last holiday – without actually doing anything. Sales come through from your blog posts day and night 365 days a year, whether or not you are actually on your blog at that time.
It also offers you a way of making different and multiple income streams so that if the worst ever happens and one dries up, you still make money from your others. Could you say that about your current job, or pension?
For me there is no better way to earn a living. It’s hard work, sometimes frustrating, sometimes exhilarating and sometimes downright exhausting, but it’s worth it.
