How To Get More Customers Who Want To Buy From You

Watch the video to learn more!

How to get more customers who want to buy from you time and time again is easy when you know how but can be very frustrating when you are just starting out in business. There are a few simple tricks that you need to learn and then your customers will come to you, not just now, but time and time again and buying increasingly more expensive items.

Having a loyal customer base is essential if you are to run a successful, sustainable business. You will probably be one yourself. Think about what supermarket you use and why. Think about your favourite restaurant or brand of clothes. You are loyal to these companies because they offer you what you want at a price you can afford and the quality is good. But why did you shop there in the first place?

Usually we have seen an advertisement, or we have seen an enticement such as a special offer, or we have had heard from someone else how good they are. You tried it and liked it and now trust it and so keep going back for more time and time again.

How do you get your customers to do the same? First you need to get your potential customer’s attention. Like large supermarkets or clothes stores you could advertise. Give something away for free. This could be a sample of the product, a free report on something associated to your product or a free trial.

Your online business is no different from a bricks and mortar business in this sense. You need to tempt your customer to try your product and then you need to convert them into long term loyal customers.

One of the best ways to achieve this is to build a list. Having access to a list of people who are interested in your product or service means that you can build a relationship with them and court them over a period of time until they know, like and trust you. They will then be far more likely to buy from you and continue buying from you. Once they have bought one product from you, you can then contact them about further products you have available that they might also be interested in. If they liked the first one, they are more likely to try the next.

List building has been known about for a number of years now and is used by the most successful businesses on the internet to grow their customer base and build profitable online businesses that turn over millions per year. They know the power of list building and the potential it gives them for building these relationships with their potential and existing customers. (There is a free report on List Building on the right of your screen, just click on it for your downloadable booklet).

So the strategies are to advertise your business, product or service and wherever possible to let your potential customers have a taster for free. You then need to build a list of people who you can create a relationship with and offer them even more free content or information so that they begin to see you as an authority and someone to be trusted. Once you have a list of people who have sampled your free products or services or who have bought a product or service then you can re-target them with more products or services that you think they may be interested in.

These strategies are easy enough to implement and you might want to grab your free copy of the List Building for Profit report and get going straight away on your own. Others, like me, are a little more cautious and perhaps a little less confident. We like our hands holding and we like to be shown what to do before we go out and try something new. If you fall into this category then I have you covered. The mentors and trainers that helped me with my business are there for you too.

Meet Stuart Ross, founder of the Six Figure Mentors, Digital Expert Academy and who is, among others, my mentor. He and his colleagues showed me step by step how to create my online business, how to attract customers and how to earn multiple income streams using the strategies I mentioned earlier. Meet him for yourself in the video below. If you really want to learn how to get more customers then I thoroughly recommend his training and mentorship.

How To Decide Between Google and Facebook Ads

I have recently been asked by some of my clients whether Google or Facebook is best to advertise on. There is no one answer as it depends on your type of business, who your potential customers are and what your personal preference is, but here are some things to consider when trying to make a decision.

One of the main benefits of Google is that everyone uses it. It has become a verb in its own right. People who want to find out something Google it. But do they really?

Each new windows laptop, tablet, desktop or other device comes with Bing as the default search engine. Most people over the age of 45 don’t know the difference and think that Bing IS Google. They would be unlikely to change their search engine to something else because they get used to what they use most. This brings up the point that if your audience is over 45 you might be better advertising on Bing instead, it’s cheaper and it has far less rules and regulations to trip you up.

Google is, however, much better at getting your advert in front of the right people, ie the people who are most likely to want your product or service. There is a way of drilling down who you would like your advertisement to be shown to ie, business owners, people of a certain age, stay at home moms etc. By being able to more effectively target your audience you are more likely to make a sale.

A big draw back with Google is that it has lots of rules and regulations governing its advertisements. You are not allowed to mention money making, you are not allowed to use excessive capitalisation in your text, you are not allowed to put something like save £££s. They are also very careful about where your website leads people to once they have clicked on your advert. I you have set up a one page website then Google will probably not authorise this advert as they son’t like single page sites. They also do not accept you sending your traffic to a landing page that has nowhere else to go from within it ie another page on your site.

If you read and follow the rules though you should be okay. The main advantage of Google over Facebook is that there is someone to talk to if you do get yourself into trouble and they will help you to get out of it. Facebook has no one. If you get into trouble with them they will either disallow your advert or just close down your account. It is not easy setting up a new account as you have to log a credit card against it and once an account with a specific credit card has been closed you cannot use that credit card again.

Google and Bing use what is called solo ads. You have seen them, they look like this…

They give you the room to put a headline (in blue), your website (in green) and a sentence of text explaining what you are advertising. When you click on the advert it takes you to the landing page or website where you can find whatever is being offered. Simple and effective and what people are used to.

Facebook adverts are a little different in that they are called native ads. This means that they look like everything else on Facebook. Here is an example of an advert and a non-advert on Facebook. See if you can spot the difference.

And this one…

Could you spot the difference? In fact the first one is the advert and you can tell because it has a call to action button on the bottom right of the advert saying sign up. It could say something like learn more, watch the video or buy now.

The idea is that is does not look out of place when users scroll through their newsfeeds. Facebook produce a template for you to use to make the whole thing much simpler for you. When someone clicks on your call to action button they are taken to the landing page or website where they can find your offer just as in the solo ad above.

Google and Facebook cost about the same amount to advertise on. You really need to be looking to spend at least £300 per month if you want a decent amount of traffic to your offer.

This advertising is called pay per click and you pay when someone clicks on your advert. Google doesn’t give you much of an opportunity to explain your products whereas Facebook lets you write a whole story about it. This means that people who click from Facebook ads are far more qualified than those who click from Google ads – hence the first sentence saying it depends on your business.

If you are selling a fishing rod then people know what this is and how much they are likely to cost and so are already pretty qualified. If you are selling something more obscure then you might need to tell people more about it before they click on your advert as it may not be what they thought or want and so you have just wasted money on a click that isn’t interested in what you are selling.

Facebook lets you really specify the audience you want your advert seen by. You could, for example say that you wanted to target married men, 35 -55 who live in Birmingham and like cycling. This is great as if you are selling cycles you only really want people who are interested in cycling to click on your ad as these are the people more likely to buy from you.

As you can see, there is no hard and fast rule. It really is just a matter of how specific you want to be with your audience and where you think your audience is likely to find you.

Remember, people do not use Facebook to look for bargains or products to buy. If you advertise n this platform you need to get good at defining your audience and writing good advertising copy. The plus is that over 1 billion people use Facebook every day and this figure is growing daily. It is by far the most popular place on the planet for people to hang out.

I mentioned YouTube briefly and it is just worth pointing out that most kids under the age of 25 spend most of their lives here so if they are your audience, then this is probably where you need to be advertising.

The main thing to consider is not really where to advertise but rather who is your audience. How old are they? Where do they hang out online? Where are your competitors advertising to reach them? The more you get to know and understand your audience the more likely you are to attract customers to your websites and offers.

How To Add A Page To Your Website

When you first get your wesbiste up and running you might be wondering where all your pages are. WordPress usually comes with one sample page, the rest you have to add yourself. However, this is a simple process so don’t worry, just follow the steps below.

Scroll down until you see pages and hover over it. You will then see a window appear that says all pages and add new. Select add new by clicking on it.

You will now be taken to a blank page like this one…

How to add a blank page

You can then start to add your content. Put the title in the box that says enter title here. Then in the box below you will be able to start typing your text, exactly as I have in this post. You will notice that there are some familiar tools for you to use to fomat your post, add italics, bold, underline change font size and colour. To add photos to your post just click on the tab on the top left of the post that says add media. This will give you the opportunity to download files from your laptop.

Once you have created your new page you will want people to be able to find it. Press publish which is a blue button the the right of the screen. This will now let you add it to a menu.

Next go to the menu bar again on the left and hover over appearance and select menus. This will take you to a page that looks like this…

How to add a pageYou will need to select the page from the first box on the left (you can see the various pages I have created) by clicking on it and then scrolling down and clicking on add to menu.

Your page is now published and available for people to view. You can check it out by going to the top of your dashboard menu and at the top hover over your website name until it says visit site. Click and see the that the page is now showing on your home page. You can alter the order it shows in by moving it up and down in the menu box on the right. The page at the top is the one that shows first. DON’T FORGET TO CLICK SAVE MENU! If you don’t do this then your menu will not be saved and your page will not show on the home page of the website.

You can also add sub directories and pages to your menu by just moving the page slightly to the right of the one above it. This will then show as a sub page. For an example of this scroll over some of the pages on my home page and you will see then that others become visible. This is how to achieve this.

I am here to help so if you get stuck drop me line and I can help you out. Once you have done it once or twice you will be amazed how simple it all is.

What To Do When You Think The Whole World Is Against You

The world is against youDo you sometimes feel that the whole world is against you? No matter what you do it just doesn’t seem to work out or go right for you? Are there days in your life when just about everything goes wrong? Do you sometimes feel that you are the only person that sees something from a certain viewpoint?

It is quite interesting when you stop to consider and study this phenomenon because it is almost true. Almost. We can probably pinpoint times in our lives when these things happened to us. We had periods of times when our lives were a mess or they just weren’t working out how we had hoped. For most of us these are just periods. Why do we have these periods? Why do they go away again?

As those of you who have read my previous posts will know, it is all about your mind-set. It is about the thoughts you have. It is about the actions you take and it is about what you ask the universe for and how you ask for it. Let me explain…

Imagine this…

You have just been turned down for a job you really wanted and had studied hard for. The interview had gone well, or so you thought. You had answered the questions well and had given some great examples of things you had done previously. You are really fed up. What do you do?

  • a) go out and celebrate the fact that you did really well in your interview
  • b) accept the fact that there was someone more suitable and be really pleased for them
  • c) Think about all the amazing other possibilities that there out there that you are now free to explore

You probably wouldn’t do any of the above, it is more likely you would do one of the below:

  • a) feel miserable and let everyone know that you are not happy about the outcome
  • b) tell yourself it was a rubbish job anyway
  • c) Tell yourself you might as well give up looking because if you didn’t get that one you probably won’t get any of the others either

It really is a shame that you do this. If you had done one of the top things you would have been energised and your spirits would have remained high. You would have put a positive spin on it and it would not have become such a big problem to you. The fact that you chose the bottom section means that you are about to embark on a period of negativity.

What you believe determines what you think so if you believe it was a rubbish job and you are better off where you are then this is what you will think. What you think determines what you do so you will do nothing. You will not look any further and you will stay in the job that you were trying to leave. What you do determines how your life will turn out so if you do nothing then nothing will change and you will stay forever in that job that you don’t like, moaning an complaining about how bad your life is.

Being positive however, means that you would have believed that it wasn’t for you and that there will be better, more suitable positions out there. You will be encouraged to look for them. You will then inevitably find one and move from the job you don’t like. This result is a much more favourable one and your life is now much brighter.

You see the periods in your life where nothing is working is usually not driven by the world, or by other people, it is usually caused by your own view of the situation. If you take a step back, pause, look at it again from a different angle then it will usually present itself differently. As Einstein said “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Although a very simplistic model, this is pretty much how life works. We think we are having a run of bad luck but really we are seeing things through negative eyes. These eyes do not serve us well. They limit our vision. they blur the possibilities and make our futures fuzzy and uncertain. While we feel like this we are not very likely to go out and seek positive things. Instead we look for things to justify the way we are feeling ie other negative things. This becomes a never ending circle – until you break it.

Once broken and you begin to see  the world again through more positive eyes then things become much clearer and brighter. You begin to see the endless possibilities that we have available to us. Not only do you see them but you want to embrace them and try them for yourself. You are keen to throw caution to the wind and experience life in the true sense of the word. You are happier and so seek out things to justify this feeling, ie other positive things. This also becomes a never ending circle – until you break it.

So the next time you think the world is against you and nothing is going right for you ask yourself this… “what am I doing to change it?”

What Is A Blog?

blogI have recently been asked what is a blog by some of my clients and so I thought others might want clarification too. Here is the really simple answer…

A blog is basically just another page on your website. Most pages on your site stay the same and you don’t have to update or amend them very often. Your blog is different as it is basically a series of “posts” or pieces of content or information that you want to share with your audience (like this content that you are reading now for example).

Blogs are usually updated at least once a week but this can be done daily or even more often if you have a lot to share. I was told that the word blog comes from web-log and got shortened. Not sure if that is true but sounds logical. A blog therefore is a log of what you are up to or what you want to make available for your audience to see.

It is a series of posts about all manner of things. It could be something newsworthy that you have done like raise money for charity. It might be something you have learned about that you then share with others (like this post) or it might be a video that you found funny, entertaining or educational that you think your audience might like to see.

Posts_menuTo start a blog with WordPress is really simple. It is usually set up already as part of your theme when you install it. There is usually a demo post on there entitled “hello world” or something similar that WordPress have included. You just need to overwrite this and, when you are happy with what you have written, publish your post. Even more simply you can just  go into your posts section on your menu and select  “add new” (as shown in the picture here).  You then have a blank sheet to start a new one on. For information on how to get it found and read by people on the internet, please see my  post entitled how to syndicate your post, or just contact me for help.

Have a look at some of mine and some of other people’s until you get the idea. As usual, I am here if you need any help, just contact me on any of the methods below.  Happy Blogging!

How To Install A WordPress Theme

Installing a WordPress theme is relatively simple to do. You can either find a theme you like and download it to your computer/laptop as a zipped file and install it that way or you can follow the steps below.

First thing you need to do is login to your WordPress admin area. Next, click on Appearance » Themes.

Click on Appearance Themes

Once you are on the themes page, click on the Add New button at the top.

Add New Themes in WordPress

On the next screen, you will have the ability to select from: Featured WordPress themes, Popular WordPress themes, Latest WordPress themes, search for a specific theme, or search for themes with specific features.

When you see the theme that you want to install, simply bring your mouse on top of the image. This will reveal the install button, preview button, and details button. Go ahead and click on the install button.

Install a WordPress Theme

WordPress will now install your theme and show you a success message along with the link to activate or live preview.

Once it is installed you will be able to go ahead and populate it with your own pages, posts and images.

To install a theme using the upload method then follow the instructions below. This is the best method for custom themes and themes that you find on the internet for use with WordPress sites.

The first method that we covered only allows you to install free themes that are available in the theme’s directory. But what if you want to install a commercial “premium” WordPress theme from companies like ThemeLab,StudioPressiThemes, etc.

Or what if you want to install a custom theme? Well in this case, you would need to install the theme using the upload method from your WordPress admin.

Start by downloading the .zip file of the theme that you purchased from a marketplace or a commercial theme provider.

Next login to your WordPress admin area and click on Appearance » Themes.

Click on Appearance Themes

Once you are on the themes page, click on the Add New button at the top.

Add New Themes in WordPress

On the next screen, click on the Upload Theme button at the top.

WordPress Theme Install Upload Theme

You will be prompted to choose the zip file that you downloaded earlier. Select the file and click Install Now.

Upload the Theme File in WordPress

Once your theme is installed, you will see a success message along with the link to activate and preview the theme.

Activate a WordPress Theme

Click on the activate button, and you’ve successfully installed and activated your WordPress theme. Depending on the theme, it may add additional settings options that you may need to configure either through the theme customiser or through a separate options panel.

Don’t be frightened to play with it as you can always change it back if you don’t like what you have done. Once you are happy with your site, page, post etc you can publish it so that the world can find it.

Have A Masters Degree And Still Poor?

Graduate image“I have a masters degree and I am still poor.” This was a message put out by one of my contacts on LinkedIn. She said that she had thought that going out and getting a degree would mean that she could avoid being poor in the future but now with student loans and no real prospects she is poorer than ever.

I felt sorry for her because I know how frustrated she must be after putting in all that work, effort and money and having nothing but debt to show for it. I replied to her saying that if she had a masters degree then she must be smart and that she should put that intelligence to finding a way to get rich. I reminded her that it need not be anything to do with what she obtained her degree in, the degree just proves that she can achieve whatever she sets out to achieve.

I thought about it for a while afterwards and I realised that this is not an uncommon thing. Quite a few of my friends have sons and daughters who got good degrees at university but never managed to find the dream job that they had expected to get. One of my friends has 3 sons and all of them went to University and none of them is working in a particularly well paid job. They are still trying to pay off the loans and second mortgage they took out to pay for all of this “useless” education.

I then started to get a bit angry about it and thought that our kids are being sold a pup. They are being sold a dream that never becomes a reality. They are led to believe that if they work hard at school and get good grades they will be accepted at a good university where they will get a good degree and then the world is their oyster. How false this promise is turning out to be.

In reality, there are just as few good jobs around today as there always were except more and more kids are going to university. It is almost the normal thing to do now once you complete your high school education. When I was at school it was only the exceptionally clever or the ones with rich parents who went to University, the rest of us had to go to college or straight to work and learn on the job. I wonder now what was actually wrong with that system? We never had to deal with the disappointment and the feeling of being let down because the system wasn’t working.

It seems that the only people getting rich out of this system is the Universities that propagate this dream. You don’t even need that decent a set of results these days to find a University that will accept you, what does that tell you?

I think it is time that we woke up as parents, and students, and started to have a look around for alternative things to do once you leave high school. There are actually lots of things that you could consider. In the UK we have modern apprenticeships where you learn a trade while you are working on the job and being paid, you also get a qualification to prove your competence. You can do online courses in anything from accountancy to zoology these days and distance learning with lots of specialist colleges. These are often much cheaper ways of getting similar certificates and awards. The “degree” tag is over-rated these days as every Tom Dick and Harry has one and employers are becoming increasingly aware of this.

Why not be a little more imaginative. If you want to become the next Alan Sugar then why not adopt his mentality and attitude? Did he have a degree? No. He just got on with making his dream a reality. He started small, learned all he could, made some good investments and hey presto he is now on the telly and everything. There is nothing he did that someone else couldn’t do. Perhaps instead of putting the 5+ years and all that brain power into a degree that will not get you anywhere, you could spend 5 years learning a trade and then start something of your own when you know enough and can prove it to a partner or bank manager.

To be honest, there is so much help out there today that anyone should be able to live the life they truly want to lead. I am not saying that it is easy or it will come straight away, but with enough determination and effort then anything is possible, including being rich.

If you would like to try working online and becoming a store owner, coach, manufacturer or internet marketer then why not check this offer out? These guys helped me to get started in my business online and they have helped thousands of others too and they are offering a free membership for a limited time so check it out, it could be just what you are looking for.

Lifestyle Is A Matter Of Choice

I was talking to someone this morning about lifestyle and holidays and income etc. She was suggesting that you are constrained by your job and income and couldn’t understand that this was not true and that lifestyle is purely a matter of choice.

Of course, most people believe that they have to do well at school, go on to college, get a good qualification which will help them to get a good job. A good job will undoubtedly come with a good salary and then a good lifestyle can be enjoyed. Most people believe this because it is what they have been conditioned to believe. It is what their parents and teachers were conditioned to believe before them and it is what society and modern culture would stubbornly bold on to as the truth.

It’s not the truth though. You don’t have to do well at school to become successful. You don’t have to get a “good job” to be able to have a good lifestyle. What you do need though is tenacity and determination. If you have these traits and can put them to good use then you can achieve whatever you want,  earn whatever you want and do whatever you want.

This might sound like wishful thinking but let me explain. Most of the wealthiest people in the world do not have good jobs – they have good businesses. They didn’t all graduate college with degrees in business or marketing, they just employ the people who did. They didn’t all have wealthy parents or come from advantaged backgrounds, most of them come from poor families and were driven by their desire to make things better for themselves and their loved ones.

The one thing these people have though is courage. They have the courage to ignore those who tell them they are mad or that it can’t be done. They have the courage to take some risks. They have the courage to believe in themselves and they have the courage to seek out those who can help them to get where they want to be.

These people have vision. They have purpose. They know exactly what sort of lifestyle they want and they keep going until they get it. They don’t give up when the first obstacle gets in their way. They don’t give up when it all goes wrong. They don’t even give up when the whole thing turns out to be a disaster, instead they dust themselves off and start all over again.

Lifestyle is a matter of choice. You get to decide how you want to live your life and what you want to have show up in it. You get to choose whether you are in a job or working for yourself. You get to choose whether £20,000 or £120,000 is enough to earn a year. You get to choose whether you want to help someone else get rich or work to make yourself rich.

Lifestyle is a matter of choice. It may not be an easy choice but it is a choice non the less. Think about what you would like your life to look like in 5 or 10 years. Think about all those things you have ever wished for. By making that first step today you could have all that in the future. Or you could just carry on doing what you are doing and accept the fact that that you don’t have the courage or the desire to make the difference.
